Dear Yalies New and Old,
Somehow you have stumbled upon Magoovet's Rush page. Either that means you're seriously bored or are INTERESTED IN JOINING MAGOOVET?? Either way, now that you're here we're here to help! As you may know, the beginning of first semester at Yale is a terrific time to join extracurriculars, including the scary, fun and crazy process of a cappella rush. Here at Magoovet, we have no rules and no pressure and everyone is welcome no matter whether or not you can sing, so you might think we wouldn't participate in rush at all. But what's done is done and what's fun is fun and so we're planning on having all the fun parts of rush with none of the stress. Here's what that should look like:
MAGOOVET RUSH IN FIVE EASY STEPS!
1. During the first weeks of the semester, there should be some opportunities to meet members of Magoovet, hear us perform, and sign up for an audition. Mostly we'll just be hanging around and, you know, might mention it to you, but we also might pop up in random places and Slifka events and sing. We'll see.
2. Auditions. Just pure fun, that's why we're still having them.
3. Rush meals are a chance for us to get to know you as a person (and vice versa). After auditions, you're gonna be asked to have a meal with one or two members of Magoovet and chat. If you don't want to tell go to the meal you don't have to.
4. Singing Dessert is Magevet’s rush concert, where you’ll hear a full-length set and enjoy food and drink. Magoovet, in our role as Shadow Magevet, might also have something like that around that time. TBD.
5. Last but not least is Tap Night, when we pick you up and then go party.
AUDITIONS!:
Why have auditions when everyone gets in? You may ask. The answer is because auditions are surprisingly fun! First we go through some warm-ups and then you sing a solo and we'll probably make you tell us about yourself but you know, you don't have to if you don't want to. Maybe we'll all sing together. Maybe we'll tell some jokes. It'll be great.
If you missed auditions, no worries! We’ll always welcome you with open arms.
